O.J. did it again…

May 11, 2008

Well looks like OJ done gone and fouled things up again.

Only this time his last name isn’t Simpson, it’s Mayo.

Allegations surfaced this weekend against freshman basketball phenom O.J. Mayo. He has been accused of accepting cash and gifts before and during his time at USC, which is in direct violation of NCAA laws.

If true, and all reports look like it is true, this is going to hit USC’s Athletic Director Mike Garrett and his NCAA Compliance Committee hard. With the as yet not proven (or not enforced, depending on your viewpoint) Reggie Bush allegations hanging out there murking up USC’s reputation, this violation will likely carry a sentence that will affect USC Basketball for seasons to come.

And you know what really fricking sucks about that? O.J. Mayo gets off basically scot free since he has declared for the NBA draft this year.

Happy Mother’s Day!

  1. Yes, the return on investment for O.J.’s one semester of college attendence does not look to be a good one for the University of Southern California. It’s a shame, because USC can have a high-quality program without having to chase “one and done” guys like Mayo. I fear that this, combined with the Reggie Bush situation, may push the NCAA into a corner where they’ll have to levy some serious wood on the backsides of the Trojan athletic program. If the NCAA continues to push the lie big-time college athletics features “student-athletes,” any credibility they hope to maintain in this manner will require they to issue some sort of serious sanctions to both the football and basketball programs. You can’t keep punishing the “lesser” members of Division I (or whatever they’re calling it these days) only.

  2. Coach: Tim Floyd has taken the Trojans to back-to-back third-place Pac-10 finishes and NCAA tournament bids while winning 63 games and sending three players to the NBA in three seasons. Picked 18th and 21st in the nation in the two
