“Jimmy Olson on Percoset” – A Separated at Birth Special

April 30, 2008

On the now infamous episode of Costas Now in which erstwhile respected journo H.G. “Buzz” Bissinger pontificated on the evils of sports bloggers and attacked the genial overlord of Deadspin, Will Leitch…

Oh hell, I don’t know where that language is coming from… maybe the spirit of a long dead MSM sports writer was possessing my fingers as they sped over my keyboard. hee hee

So yeah we’ve all see the show by now, right?

I give you Jimmy Olson:

And Jimmy Olson on Percoset:

Hmmm yeah, that works, doesn’t it? It doesn’t change the fact that Buzz Billinger acted like a giant ass the other night.

The Brett Favre effect

April 28, 2008

Hello Football Fiends!

Before I get to the Favre Effect — yes, my main header image is missing. I was trying to add some code so that my site can be syndicated over at Bleacher Report but it screwed up my CSS code and my header is gone, and uploading it anew is not working and I don’t know CSS AT ALL so am at a loss… Hopefully I’ll get it fixed soon.

Now back to the draft—

Green Bay drafted Louisville QB Brian Brohm AND LSU QB Matt Flynn. Interesting move. Is it because they have so much faith in QB Aaron Rodgers that they feel they can develop 2 rookie backups? Or is it the Favre Effect? As in, they are totally freaked out about Brett not being under center come fall.

Of course who knows if both rookies will make the roster. It is just an interesting draft note to me.

First thoughts on the draft and UCLA’s QB situation

April 27, 2008

-Oakland clearly has no idea what they need. Funny when most of the football fans know Oakland needs a defensive line. I suppose that’s why of their 5 picks, 1 is a running back (Darren McFadden) and 2 are wide receivers.

Way to go Oakland Raiders.

-USC had 10 players drafted. Four of them went in the first round. USC had the most players of any school drafted.

-UCLA had 3 players drafted.

-Speaking of UCLA, as I am sure you’ve heard, both QB’s went down in a non contact drill during Spring practice last week. Patrick Cowan, a 5th year senior will miss the whole 2008 season with a major ACL injury. Ben Olson injured his foot and is expected to be ready by fall. Cowan’s collegiate carreer is likely over as the NCAA’s guidelines for a 6th year of eligibility are pretty clear and his case does not meet those guidelines.

-I think Boston College QB Matt Ryan is what the Falcons need, whether he ever starts a game for them or not. By drafting a QB with their 1st pick, 3rd overall in the first round they send the message that they’ve just chosen their next franchise QB and his name isn’t Michael Vick. Had the Falcons not chosen a QB in the first round, they’d have set themselves up for a year and a half of “is Vick coming back or not” questions. Instead, their choice of Ryan sends a message: Michael Vick is no longer this franchise’s QB.

That’s all for now. Further thoughts to come.

14 hours until the NFL draft…

April 25, 2008

Hey Football Fiends-

It is 14 hours until the 2008 NFL draft. It is my plan to live blog the first 2 rounds but if that is NOT possible, I will come in and recap it late Saturday or Sunday.

I need to drive up to my parents’ place 4 hours away tomorrow and if this were a FOOTBALL GAME I wanted to see, well you can bet your ass I’d get out of bed at the crack of dawn to drive so that I arrived in time for kick off.

But the draft? Sure it’s a little dose of the NFL, but pick, 10-15 min goes by, another pick…I am not sure I can get my SO NOT A MORNING PERSON butt out of bed and on a lonely desert highway to arrive in time for the start of the draft (remember am on west coast time here).

I will give it my best shot.

Either way, coverage of what happens tomorrow will go up this weekend.

Hello Football Fiends!

The NFL’s 2008 draft is 2 days away and although we already know Michigan’s Jake Long is the first pick this year, where the other picks will fall is still up for grabs.

I’ll be live blogging at least the first 2 rounds on Saturday, so check back then for a look at the rookie class of 2008.

Hey Football Fiends!

Long time no post, I know…. but I’m back and I have good news.

As in previous years, Spring Football wraps at USC with the naming of the starting QB for the fall.

I am happy to report that our Orange County boy Mark Sanchez is the new starting QB for USC, NOT the SEC transfer Mustain. hee hee
