Merry Christmas to one and all!

December 24, 2009

Hey Football Fiends!

I’ve been enjoying a little extended Holiday Break here on Gridiron Goddess. Licking my wounds, so to speak and hoping for better things for my beloved USC Trojans next year!

Tomorrow, I’ll be watching my San Diego Chargers kick Vince Young and the Titans asses. What a good Christmas present that will be. I always enjoy seeing Young go down. Call it a four-year hangover from the 2006 Rose Bowl, whatever.

I’ll also be watching USC’s men’s basketball team take on my hometown UNLV Runnin’ Rebels in the Championship Game of the tournament going on in Hawaii this week.

Then of course on Saturday, USC vs Boston College in the Emerald Bowl. Friends, I don’t even want to hazard to make a guess on the final outcome there. I watched Oregon State implode vs BYU live at the LV Bowl on Tuesday. Cal’s performance against Utah in the Poinsettia Bowl on Wednesday left a lot to be desired. For it being such an up year for the Pac-10 with one of the most exciting conference races in the country, we’re sure not showing our strength so far in Bowl games.

I’m not even going to get into the Joe McKnight crap right now. Or the three Trojans declared academically ineligible for the Emerald Bowl. It makes my head hurt to think about it. Have we not suffered enough this season?

Perhaps Santa can bring my Trojans a much needed season ending victory on Saturday? Maybe if I leave Santa and extra special treat tonight?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Football Fiends!

September 24, 2009

Week 4 Final:11-5

Week 3 Final: 14-2

Week 2 Final: 11 – 4

Week 1 Final: 10 – 4

Hey Football Fiends-

It’s that time of the week again and this Trojan alum finds herself in a familiar place. Unsure of which USC football team is going to show up to play Saturday night in the Coliseum. USC is a 46.5 favorite over Washington State and as past years have shown – this isn’t a great place to be in. That said, Matt Barkely is starting and USC will win the game. I just don’t think our offense has gelled enough to beat that point spread.

USC over Washington State

Mizzou over Nevada

Ohio State over Illinois

Wisconsin over Michigan State

LSU over Mississippi State

Alabama over Arkansas

Florida over Kentucky

College Football Picks: Week 3

September 18, 2009

Week 3 Final: 14-2

Week 2 Final: 11 – 4

Week 1 Final: 10 – 4

Hey Football Fiends –

Here are my CFB picks for week 3.  I don’t expect USC to even miss a beat with Aaron Corp in at QB in place of the aaron-corp-pictures-2injured Matt Barkley. Corp is a mobile QB and it will be great to see how our offense operates with him under center.

I’d love to see Florida and Texas lose of course. Texas, especially. (old grudges die hard and all). I just don’t think it’s going to happen. The game I am least confident about is Oregon-Utah. Oregon barely squeaked out a win last week vs Purdue and, of course, lost to Boise State in the season opener. Utah, on the other hand needed until the 4th quarter to pull ahead of San Jose State and win.  I’m going with Oregon because all things considered, they’ve played better teams so far this season and will be more prepared for what Utah will bring than Utah’s competition thus far has prepared them for the Ducks at Autzen Stadium.

Boise State over Fresno State

Mississippi State over Vandy

Oregon over Utah

USC over Washington $^%^*$()*$^#%@%%@ Corp was AWFUL. The D needs Taylor Mays. More thoughts later, MAYBE. I need to go punch something first.

UCLA over Kansas State

VA Tech over Nebraska

Notre Dame over Michigan State

Florida over Tennessee

Cal over Minnesota

UCF over Buffalo

Oklahoma over Tulsa

Kentucky over Lousiville

BYU over FSU

Georgia over Arkansas

Texas over Texas Tech

Stanford over SJSU

CFB Picks week The Season has flown by too fast

November 21, 2008

Hey Football Fiends!

Did ya hear? GridironGoddess.net is one of the Top 100 College Sports Blogs. Pretty f-in cool, eh?

I’m in Salt Lake City and getting ready to head out to the stadium to check out the set up for the showdown between undefeated Utah and their cross-town rival BYU. These folks out here are SERIOUS about this rivalry. It’s like USC-UCLA, but with colder weather. Holy Mother of God it’s cold here. I will not complain about 80 degree Southern California and Southern Nevada November temperatures again.

USC has the weekend off. And so you know, I am picking Oregon State to lose. And I will until they do. So take that for what it’s worth. Currently Arizona is favored by 2.5.

Utah over BYU

Ohio State over Michigan

Vandy over Tennessee

Ole Miss over LSU

Notre Dame over Syracuse

Washington over Wazzou

Oklahoma over Texas Tech

Penn State over Michigan State

Cal over Stanford

Arizona over Oregon State

UNLV over SDSU

Florida State over Maryland

VA Tech over Duke

Purdue over Indiana

CFB Picks Week 10: One Unbeaten BCS Team Will Fall

November 7, 2008

Hey Football Fiends!

Mark my words: One of the Unbeaten BCS teams will go down this weekend. It’s not Utah, they’ve already won. Will it be Texas Tech in a hangover from last week’s last minute victory over Texas? Will it be the Crimson Tide when they go on down to Baton Rouge? Or will Penn State’s Nittany Lions get surprised by that team from Iowa?

To tell you the truth–I am not sure. I think Texas Tech will lose either this week or next week against Oklahoma. Bama and LSU–damn. I’m not impressed with LSU this season in the same way that many are not impressed with USC. Yes LSU is a good team. But they just aren’t firing on all the cylinders they need to be to win the SEC.  The two games the Tigers have lost (Georgia and Florida) they’ve lost big. And Bama has already beat the Bulldogs.

But who am I underestimating? The Red Raiders? The Cowboys? The Tigers? The Crimson Tide? Or is it the Nittany Lions who will finally prove fallible?

God I love College Football!

Any Given Saturday. That’s what I keep telling myself. So without further editorializing, my CFB Picks for Week 10.

UTAH over TCU 13-10

USC over CAL

Wisconsin over Indiana

Ohio State over Northwestern 45-10

Florida over Vanderbilt 42-14

Georgia over Kentucky 42-38

Oregon State over UCLA

Arizona over WA State

Texas over Baylor 45-21

Minnesota over Michigan

Nebraska over  Kansas

Mizzou over K State 41-24

Michigan State over Purdue 21-7

And the 3 Unbeaten Teams left:

Oklahoma State over Texas Tech

Bama over LSU

Penn State over Iowa 24-23

CFB Pick Special- Thursday night BCS Buster showdown…

November 6, 2008

Hey Football Fiends!

Tonight’s game between #8 Utah and #12 TCU is shaping up to be the BCS Buster Showcase game of the season.

If Utah wins tonight, the Utes will continue to be the highest ranked non-BCS team in the nation. They will also be just 2 games away from an undefeated season with only San Diego State and BYU remaining on their schedule.  A win could have national impact. A loss could also have national impact though not of the kind the die hard Utes I know are hoping for.

If TCU wins, the Horned Frogs will walk away the Mountain West Conference Champion. They will have one game left (vs. Air Force). Even if TCU loses that game it would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over both the Utes and the Cougars of BYU.

The Utes have got to want this more. It just stands to reason. They are hungrier. They have something to prove. They are this season’s BCS stepchild. Not one of the chosen six BCS conferences, yet undefeated and ranked below several 1 loss teams.  Feeling like they can compete with the USCs and Floridas and Texases of the world and thus far, not getting a chance to prove it. (In USC’s case, not getting a chance to prove it since the Utes beat up on USC in the 2001 Las Vegas Bowl during Pete Carroll’s inaugural season. A game Your Gridiron Goddess, Stephen of Your Fantasy Football Reality Check and our Dad attended.)

Both Utah and TCU are fighting for an at large bid to a BCS Bowl.

Utah needs to look out for TCU’s speed. They will be the fastest team the Utes have faced all season.  This team speed could be where the are Utes tripped up. The Horned Frogs rank first nationally against the run, first nationally in sacks, second nationally in total defense and third nationally in scoring defense.

Don’t count Utah out though.  That would be a huge mistake. The Utes have some speed on their side and look for them to come out and establish the run in order to generate some big plays. Utah is counting on the fact that no team has really brought out a running game against TCU this season.

The Utes are 2-1 against TCU since the Horned Frogs joined the MWC. TCU’s lone win was a 23-20 overtime decision. The Utes won 27-20 the last time the game was played in Rice-Eccles stadium in 2006.

Now for the Thursday night CFB Pick:

UTAH over TCU Utah wins 13-10 to remain unbeaten. TCU falls to 9-2.
