Guest post: College Football Preview – UGA #1 team in BCS

June 30, 2008

I want to start by introducing myself. I am ‘eneffell’ (NFL) and I am the author of The I-Form (be sure to visit it) and secondly, I would like to thank Amy for letting me contribute on her blog. I am here to tell you why the Georgia Bulldogs are the number one team college football.

The main summary of Georgia’s 41-10 beating of Hawaii is sacks. If you remember the 2008 Sugar Bowl

correctly, your mind will conjure up visions of Colt Brennan on the ground with a Georgia D-Lineman standing triumphantly over him.

Georgia sacked Brennan eight times and knocked him down 20+ times. He couldn’t get the ball off. Reports surfaced that Brennan now sleeps with a night-light because he thinks Marcus Howard is in his closet or under his bed. Howard was the first defensive player to be Sugar Bowl MVP

Now, Howard is gone, but most of the offense and defense is back. And with a Top 5 Recruiting Class, the Bulldogs are definitely a pre-season Top 5 Team along with the likes of Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma, and Florida (not necessarily in that order) if not the best.

And, in the expert opinion of Todd McShay, Knowshon Moreno and Matt Stafford are Top 5 Picks in next years draft. And, in my amateur opinion, I think they are both Heisman candidates for next year as well. Both are young, and both are very good.

But, there are possible problems down the road. Georgia does have a very tough schedule. Combined with SEC Conference play, which is always difficult, they have to go to Arizona State to play the Sun Devils, who are also a Pre-Season Top 25 team. Then, on top of that, they have road games at LSU and Auburn.

I like my Dawgs a lot this season. The Gridiron Goddess would tell you that USC is better. But, UGA would tell you ‘Go Dawgs’

– eneffell, Author of iform.wordpress.com

Note from Your Gridiron Goddess: eneffell is right about one thing, I do think USC is better. But I also think the top two teams in the country are not Florida and Ohio State (the choke master 1) or Florida and LSU or Florida and Oklahoma (the choke master 2) The top two teams in College Football heading into the season are USC and Georgia.

Coming this fall…(well really later this summer)

June 29, 2008

Football fiends, you are in for a TREAT! My brother, Stephen Lamare, will be writing a weekly column on Fantasy Football for Gridiron Goddess that will appear on Thursdays every week starting soon. We’re working out his details and the title of his column, but let me tell you, Your Gridiron Goddess’s love and knowledge of the game doesn’t come from nowhere.

  • As previously mentioned my High School is the #8 overall best high school athletic program in the entire United States.
  • I went to USC. That needs no explaining as anyone who went to a big Division I powerhouse school knows. A sold out 92,000 seat Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on College Game Day is the closest thing to heaven on earth in my world.
  • The ’85 Bears helped turn me into the football fan I am today.
  • And finally, but most significantly, my Dad and Stephen taught me well.

Stephen has won more Fantasy Football leagues in more sports than just about anyone on the planet. He doesn’t even like hockey and he’s considering joining a Fantasy Hockey League just for the challenge. Yes, we are cut from the same cloth, my brother and I.

Look for an introductory post from Stephen soon. CBS Sportsline, AOL Sports, Yahoo Sports, etc– there’s a new kid on the block and you should snap him up while you can!!

As Pete Carroll is so fond of saying and which Stephen and I have decided is our 2008 Season motto: “Do it better than it’s ever been done before”and “It’s all about the ball.”

Yeah, those two statements sum up how I feel about Gridiron Goddess.net very accurately. Remember, this is just the first step in my quest for total media domination. (hee hee)

R.I.P. Uga VI

June 28, 2008

Sad News College Football Fans.

Uga VI

The University of Georgia’s beloved mascot, Uga VI ,died Friday of congestive heart failure at his home in Savannah. A true Southern gentleman, the handsome Dawg was 9 years old. He will be buried in a vault at Sanford Stadium with Ugas I-V.

You all know what a devoted Trojan I am, but like when Bevo XIII died in 2006, I am HEARTBROKEN.

I am a big softie for animals and Traveler, Uga and Bevo (and George Tirebiter, of course!) are my favorite mascots. Forget the guys in the big furry costumes with over sized melons, (or Oranges) give me a real live animal mascot with heart and soul and personality any day.

REST IN PEACE Uga VI. Condolences go out to the Bulldog Nation tonight. “Bite On” to all y’all from George Tirebiter and the entire Trojan Nation.

Oh Goodie!

June 28, 2008

Seems Roger Goodell would like to see an internship program in the NFL. ESPN.com reports today that NFL Commish Goodell is speaking out about the “ridiculously” high salaries given to rookies. He cites recent draftee Jake Long’s $57.75 million contract with $30 million guaranteed as a particularly offensive situation.

“There’s something wrong about the system,” Goodell said Friday. “The money should go to people who perform.”

Goodell referred to Michigan tackle Jake Long‘s five-year, $57.75 million contract — with $30 million guaranteed. Long was the first overall draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in April.

“He doesn’t have to play a down in the NFL and he already has his money,” Goodell said

You know, he does have a point. However part of the ridiculous fun of the NFL is the exorbitant amount of money owners are willing to spend to try and win a Superbowl.

And another thing, Goodell said:

“And that money is not going to players that are performing. It’s going to a player that never makes it in the NFL. And I think that’s ridiculous.”

Now why do I think T.O. is going to come out loud and strong in support of that statement?

Looking for NFL Odds? Or are you someone who likes to Bet on Football?

USC gets first commit of 2010

June 26, 2008

Rivals.com has the story, but the gist of it is: USC ROCKS the recruiting class of 2010. Today they got their first 2010 recruit – . San Diego (Calif.) Mission Bay athlete, Dillon Baxter, committed to USC only moments after he received his offer from head coach Pete Carroll.

Congrats to Dillon and way to go Pete!

And hey, with the upcoming NFL season you can take part in some fun football stuff with NFL ODDS and even BET ON FOOTBALL

Coming Soon: BCS Previews

June 18, 2008

Hello Football Fiends!

In the coming weeks we will be kicking off Gridiron Goddess’s 2nd season. Previews of all 6 BCS conferences and each NFL team (probably by division) will start running July 1.

Pac 10, Big 10 and Notre Dame will be covered by me. My pal and diehard Vol Byron will preview the SEC as he did last year. I’ve asked another frequent Gridiron Goddess contributor to do the Big 12. Walker Sports will be covering the ACC.

If you are a diehard Big East fan and want to write a preview of your conference, let me know.

As I said, BCS preview coverage begins July 1.

An NFL post will follow with that schedule (as soon as I figure it out!)
